Nielsen Scantrack Grocery reports sales of craft beer grew 10.2 percent in the past 12 months, compared to just 0.6 percent for the entire beer segment. This means that traditional beer sellers are facing pains, while the craft breweries are booming. Two of the U.S. cities seeing the biggest growth in craft beer sales are in Ohio, with Cincinnati and Cleveland both seeing more than 20 percent year-over-year growth. The surge in craft breweries that has been growing across the country is taking root in Dayton as well, which now has a dozen local breweries, with even more planned. Ohio ranks 9th in the nation for most craft breweries, with 110, according to the Brewers Association. The state is the fourth-largest producer, however, with just shy of 1.3 million barrels of craft beer produced in 2014. The economic impact of the craft beer industry in Ohio was $1.2 billion in 2012, the most recent year the state is available from the association, ranking the state No. 8 in the U.S. While Dayton has seen a boom in craft breweries, the region is also home to the largest brewery in Ohio: the Miller Brewery in Trenton, just south of Dayton.
